Η πρωτοβουλία για την Επιστήμη του Web στοχεύει στην κατανόηση του αντίκτυπου των σύγχρονων τεχνολογιών της Πληροφορίας και του Διαδικτύου στο επιστημονικό πεδίο και στην καθημερινή πρακτική και, παράλληλα, επιθυμεί την παραγωγή επιστημονικής γνώσης για την περαιτέρω ανάπτυξη του World Wide Web.
